Marvel topper Avi Arad has confirmed that "THOR", who first appeared in Marvel Comics' "Journey Into Mystery" #83 (1962) is in development as a major motion picture.
The character Thor stands 6'6", weighing 640 lbs. As the son of Odin, Thor's strength and endurance are greater than the other Asgardian gods. His weapon of choice is the enchanted hammer Mjolnir, made of a mystic 'Uru' metal, deriving its powers from Odin's six enchantments. The hammer always returns to the exact spot from which it is thrown, as well as channeling the elements of storms, projecting mystical energy and opening dimensional portals.
According to Marvel plot-lines, Odin banishes the young God of Thunder to Earth without his memory, to teach him a lesson in humility. After a decade as mortal Dr. Donald Blake, Thor is drawn to Norway where he encounters war-mongering aliens, bent on the destruction of Earth. Seeking escape in a cave, Blake discovers a mysterious wooden cane. The cane transforms Blake back into Thor. Thor defeats the aliens, and soon becomes one of the New York-based 'Avengers'. Now torn between his divine home and the Earth, Thor learns that Don Blake had not existed prior to Thor's appropriation of that form. In light of this revelation, Thor establishes a new identity as Sigurd Jarlson.
During a battle with the villain 'Mongoose' Thor's friend Eric Masterson is killed. As a gift to his son, Odin merges Masterson with the Thunder God (in a similar manner to the creation of Don Blake).
Meanwhile Thor's brother 'Loki', the Norse God of Mischief and Evil, continues with his ambitions to seize Odin's throne. Again merging with a mortal (Jake Olson) Thor returns to live a double life on Earth.
