Peyton "Bring It On" Reed will develop/direct Marvel's "Fantastic Four" for 20th Century Fox.
Marvel topper Avi Arad has said that like all Marvel properties, the fine-tuning of the characters is the most important consideration to bringing 2-dimensional comic book properties to life on the big screen. He anticipates a March 2003 start-date.
Former BBC staff writer Doug Petrie has written the current draft screenplay, featuring Doctor Doom as the main protagonist of Reed Richards, his wife Sue Storm, her brother Johnny and Ben Grimm.
Arad would like to see actor George Clooney portray 'Reed Richards', leader of the team, and the scientist responsible for the fateful experimental rocket-ship ride that created the 'Fantastic Four' : Richards becoming 'Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm 'The Invisible Girl', Johnny Storm 'The Human Torch' and all-American football star Ben Grimm tragically becoming 'The Thing'. Ben Grimm's resentment towards Richards and his jealously of the other 'more normal' looking members of the group, drives the character arc of the story.
